Mikel Barandiaran

Bio//

I have played instruments for a long time, but it took my a while to trust myself enough to make my own music. I was normally just a session musician. Then I started to realize of the structures of composition that build up a song. And once I actually lost the fear to get a pencil and write something over the pogressions I was making everything came together. And I realize it was what I wanted to do all along.

I define my music as acoustic, with a lot of construction and balance over textures. A clean perspective and approach to a traditional Spanish singer-songwriter feel, with a combination of modern sounds and ambience, that create simple but rich harmonic athmosphere.

Luis Alberto Spinetta, one of my favorite musicians, once said that we are just bridges that connect the rest of the people to music. I believe that we owe ourselfs and to music, being truth to our own being and open enough to let that magic flow through us and reach the rest of the world.

For me, the most relatable concept in music is love, in the most global and general definition. Love for everything that I do, everything I create, everything I got into. I feel that reaching that point when you have the same feeling from working on every new project, that I had the first time I wrote a song is worth the universe and more.

I feel music everywhere, in movement, noise, people, nature, animals, silence, etc. It would be an understatement to put music into a category of comparisson with other things for me, because is basically my natural state of appreciation towards life. But, I can say something: I just want to help the world listen to that music, that is everywhere.

In my music you can hear: Charly Garcia, Luis Alberto Spinetta, The Beatles, Jorge Drexler, Pedro Aznar, Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, Tom Jovim, Gustavo Cerati, Silvio Rodriguez, Eduardo Mateo, Ricardo Mollo, Divididos, Jaco Pastorius, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, The Beach Boys, etc.

In the end I just want my music to make you feel something, that's art. I feel I have finally have the confidence to start creating music to share with these ghost walkers, bringing something new to those unknown people that passed everyday next to me. Thanks for reading, invisible friends.
